Why losing weight fast isn't always the best option... The truth about Saggy Skin

Many of us want to lose weight, and when we decide it's time to get on with it and go on a diet, we often want the fastest path to glory.

Many people aren't aware as they embark on their weight loss journey: the quicker we try to lose weight, the more likely an unwanted side effect will occur….. SAGGY SKIN

Is this something that you experience? If so - you're not alone!

In fact, if you've spent time dieting previously and trying to lose weight, you probably know that saggy skin can be a byproduct of weight loss (not what we desire). Saggy skin on the face and body is often linked to rapid fat loss.

Anyone can get saggy skin, but it is more common with people as they age. People who lose a lot of weight very fast are also very much at risk.

So Why does saggy skin happen?

As we age, the deterioration of the proteins called collagen and elastin cause saggy skin.

Several factors can also increase the likelihood of skin sagging, including:

  • UV Exposure - too much sun exposure

  • Environmental pollutants especially smoking

  • Poor lifestyle factors such as poor nutrition and drinking to excess.

Okay, so now with that background information, you're probably asking the question…..HOW CAN I TREAT, PREVENT or REDUCE SAGGY SKIN ???

Don't worry - there are many ways to prevent or help most mild to moderate, moderate cases of skin laxity.

Check them out below:

EXERCISING

This one should be a rather obvious option when it comes to preventing and treating mild saggy skin. Excercise, especially weights training - working out with weights, including resistance bands, can help strengthen muscles and reduce the appearance of saggy skin

TOPICAL TREATMENTS

Some creams and lotions that contain special ingredients such as retinol and the newer, more natural ingredients such as Bacuichol may improve skin elasticity and firmness.

TAKE A SUPPLEMENT

Some oral supplements I recommend to my clients are collagen and hyaluronic acid, which some studies have shown to reduce age-related sagging skin.

And of course, last but not least...

LIFESTYLE CHANGES

Adopting safe skin habits like wearing sunscreen and a hat, staying hydrated will all help your skin health and therefore help to prevent saggy skin.
